A-OK in my book. Why only all right? Let me explain: Pudge's was my first meal in my visit to Philly this past weekend. Famished from a 9 hour bus ride, the six of us sat down to munch on 5 regular subs for ~$8 each + loads of meat + bell peppers? Gooood deal. Problem was that it was just too much of the same thing, and I just couldn't finish it. Also, the subs themselves were a little soggy. However, it may be more of a function of my tastes in regards to philly cheesesteaks themselves than the pure goodness of the place. Would try this again -- albeit with a smaller portion.

I use to work in Blue Bell and my coworkers and I would go here weekly. We love the cheesesteaks!!!!! Boy oh boy do I miss this place. I think I might just have to swing by now.

I read many reviews on here and decided to stop by with my wife and give this place a try. We ordered their ultimate pork sandwich, ultimate Italian hoagie and bacon cheese fries. Now, maybe most of these reviewers don't really know what a good sandwich is. I'm originally from Philly. I grew up with Pat's, Gino's, Steve's, Tony Luke's and Greenmans in my backyard..... I know what a good cheesesteak, hoagie or pork sandwich is. Maybe this place had a bad day, but I don't see myself coming back here any time soon. The pork roll sandwich with spinach was very bland, there was a spice on it but otherwise the pork itself held no flavor. The only thing that was tasty about this sandwich was the roll. The ultimate Italian hoagie was actually pretty good, it had good quality and tasty meats and cheese but it was sliced way too thick that one couldn't even fold it into a hoagie. It basically was an open roll. All the tomatoes and onions rolled off the top. The roasted peppers embedded in the sandwich were very good. The bacon cheese fries, I wouldn't give to my pups. The cheese was very lumpy and thick, the bacon was very greasy and flabby and the French fries themselves were very soggy. I can't believe people actually order these. Like I mentioned before, maybe this was a bad day for Pudges, but after reading all the raves from here, I definitely expected something edible and good.

This place sucks. I wouldn't even take a shit here if I desperately had to. The manager and owners are cutting corners and trying to save money by using shit product. They also got rid of all the good servers. I wouldn't give this place any money.

amazing, I asked for a large sub thinking I would get a foot long. I got something like 1.5 feet of steak, cheese, bread and peppers. This place is insane. I wish there was more peppers and cheese, but all in all, it was a good cheese steak experience!

Pudge's was recommended by some friends that live in the area. Yes, there is Pat's and Geno's but there is no need to focus only on those locations to get a good 'steak'. My sandwich was excellent, and I hope to go back again someday.

I've been eating at Pudge's for years, and I still think they are some of the best cheesesteaks in the suburbs. The rolls are always nice and fresh; and these things are packed with meat. My friend who lives in the area had his first cheesesteak from Pudge's and couldn't believe how much meat was packed into that roll. Never had anything besides cheesesteaks and fries, so can't comment on the rest of the menu, but try them out if you like cheesesteaks. We rarely eat in, but the new spot is much nicer and cleaner looking than their previous tiny location. It's a small walk across a parking lot, but I think this space is a big step up from their "hole in the wall" location before.

When you come to Philly and want the delicious, stuff-your-gut Mom-and-Pop cheesesteak experience, come here. Heads, shoulders, knees and toes above anything Quiznos or Subway might throw at your mouth. It's in a strip mall, get over it. This is a cultural experience. These things are freaking huge, made from quality ingredients and deliciousness. Order the cheesesteak with onions, peppers, and sauce. The sauce is house-made marinara which goes surprisingly well with the rest. I ordered the regular size and was able to eat the whole thing. And I'm not a big guy, but it filled me up... way up. Go hungry.

I've been a huge Pudge's fan for a long time but as of late the low quality of the food & Sloppy dine in conditions has me questioning if I still love Pudge's. After much thought and with sincere regret the consensus is that Pudge's has lost the flavor that made them famous in the first place and without that even the byob won't call me back. My advice to the crew at Pudge's. Message me for a list of area sandwich shops that actually take pride to make a great sandwich. I'll free b the first one and yes it is a gas station. Dj shell. Bow down.

This place makes some of the best cheesteaks in the area. They are hard matched in quantity and quality.

Forget Pat's, forget Gino's, forget Dalessandro's and all the other tourist traps...Pudge's has THE best cheesesteaks in the Philadelphia area.

  • Grand Y.

4.5 stars. Largest cheesesteak ever. I shared a regular size, with extra cheese, with the boy. We both ended up in a happy food coma. I spied an excellent-looking meatball sandwich. I plan to try that next.

  • Rainbow C.

The hoagies aren't the very best I've ever had, but they are good. As others have stated, the hoagies are rather big. Pudge's also does a pretty good job of making large orders for local businesses.

  • Jenny H.

This is the best cheesesteak place in Philly-hands down, and I've been to most of the popular ones in the city and around town. I've brought at least a dozen friends from out of town to this place, and everyone RAVES about this place. They give you tons of meat, all melted gooey into a fresh Italian hoagie roll. I love this place!!! And I love how they're open on Sundays now too, so I can grab a cheesesteak and watch football!!!

With 70+ reviews it's hard to cover new ground here. I will say that it had been a million years since I had been to Pudge's and I was frankly a bit disappointed. I would gladly have given up some of the size of my cheesesteak for one with more flavor from both the cheese and the steak. The cheese fries were just average. The table service I received from Rachel was awesome.

I still think Pudge's is the best place to get a cheesesteak. But for crying out loud, the service the last 2 out of 3 times has absolutely sucked. The last time we were here, they actually fired a waitress because she screwed things up completely. At least the owner realized the messed and comped our meal. But today, I went with my family and parents and they screwed up my order. My family and parents all got their meal at the same time, but the waitress said that the kitchen thought my turkey club (trying to be good today eating) was a take out order. She said it would only be a minute to get my sandwich. But when my family was 80% done with their meals, I went to the cashier (because our waitress disappeared) and canceled my order. I love their food, but the newest waitresses their suck. The ones that have been there for a while have always been good. But I am saddened that mediocre service in our country now seems to be the norm :( Because of poor service, my rating for this place has dropped a star. Maybe I should just do takeout.

  • Katie G.

Really good cheese steaks. I haven't tried any of their hoagies, but I'm sure they live up to the same standard. One thing that bothers me about Pudge's is the location - its so far out of the way from me, sometimes I don't want to make the trip. However, the wait staff is really friendly and makes it easy to order, even if you are new to the place, so its not a big deal :) :)

    (4)
  • Crystal N.

Super fast and friendly service!!! Hoagies are wayyyy too big! We ordered 3 12in phillies and each of us could only eat half. I loved my hoagie! Only one complaint is that they close too early!

  • Andy S.

Had a regular (HUGE) size Zep last night. Hoagie had very good weight to it. The correct salami, fresh tomatoes and nicely sliced raw onion. Conshohocken roll was outstanding as usual. #2 Zep right under Lou's. (in my opinion of course)

Wow - great Italian hoagie!! Awesome meats and plenty of them. Great roll. One of the better ones I've ever had.

really? what's all the hoopla? This place has bland oily meat that's undersalted....here's the biggest crime: at least when we were there, it was day old bread on both a chick cheesesteak and a regular cheesesteak. (you know how bread flakes in that weird way when it's old?). Additionally, the "fried onions" are thrown on top instead of being cooked in the meat....a major violation to any true cheesesteak shop. Fries were oily and unflavored (clear sign of burnt, old oil). The only other place that throws their onions on top is chubby's in Roxborough however their meat is very flavorful and bread is fresh. What do you expect for the burbs? It really isn't that great at all...ok? maybe, but not great. We took some out of towners there and it was uncomfortable (they even knew we made a mistake)...who delivers fries to the table 10 minutes after the steaks come? pudge's does! The old location was good..this location has gotten sloppy and is clearly a factory where the profit comes first (styrofoam cups for soda) I mean who uses styrofoam anymore?....cheap. I must say service was good and friendly and it's clean in there. Steve's steaks in Philly....now that's a good place.

  • Corbin L.

Not sure if people just over hyped this place, but it was just ok. I didn't really read any of the other reviews, but I have to believe that all these 4 and 5 star reviewers are lifelong suburbanites. I probably would have given this place 2 stars, but I gave them an extra star because they are very generous with the meat. If you absolutely can't get to the city, then this place may suffice.

    (3)
  • Paul T.

Pudge's is one of my favorite places. I have one complaint/issue. In the winter almost wherever you sit you get the blast of cold air from the front door. Added to this are the inconsiderate that stand there with the door wide open while the either wait for someone or they are talking to someone. It was so bad the last time we were there we didn't even finish our meal. We just wanted to get out of there and get someplace warm.

  • T. M. S.

About the best Cheesesteak you can get outside of a 191xx zipcode. In the burbs, it remains a mystery to me how the zipcodes really fuck up a decent sandwich, pizza or well...just about anything you put in your mouth. I just chalk it up to the stupidity of the consumer? Either way, I can't say they are the niceest...as if the are TRYING to mimic Mr. Speak English and the south philly addytude...but really they are busy and its hot in there and people are edgy . Still isn't a CHINKS....but worth it if you live near by.

  • Tony E.

Executive Summary: Bomb cheesesteak. They make it with marinara sauce. Order the big guy. The best I had in Philly while I lived there. Don't go for Pat's or Gino's. Too trendy and not a good deal. Pudge's is priced right, the service is friendly (not always fast) but you get a BOMB cheesesteak, no joke. The marinara sends you to the f*ckin moon! Just do it.

I was visiting my soon to be neighborhood and wanted to try what some were calling the best cheesesteak in the world. The thing I liked the most was the price. $10 for a big cheesesteak and a drink.... cant beat that. Steak - A little like diced roast beef but still pretty good. Rolls- The rolls were from Conshohocken Bakery and were very soft. I prefer a crispy on the outside roll but that is just me. Overall it was a pretty decent steak but I know of a few better places to go if you MUST have a cheeesteak. The it could have used a little more cheese but overall I enjoyed it. 3.8999 out of 5

Delicious cheesesteaks. This is what I think of when I think of Philly cheesesteaks.

This place has the remedy for multiple ailments including hard day at work, sadness, hangovers, and lack of meat. I come here frequently to enjoy the delicious cheesesteak sandwiches that are piled high with your choice of chicken or beef. I once bought a friend here from out of state for a nice brunch. He still calls me and tells me how he still thinks about the exquisite meatwiches that we enjoyed at Pudges. I think Pudges should franchise to all 50 states and eventually be where all current Roy Rogers and Hardees stand, because no one eats there and if they do they are probably blind and have no sense of smell or taste. If a player from the Philadelphia Eagles named Michael (Kafka or Vick) ate a cheesesteak here, they would probably say it's the best thing they ever ate. No Romo. Pudges, you're the best and you'll be my friend to the end.

Well, I could not betray my very soul and stay away, and I gotta say with my last three recent visits (two takeout, one eat-in), they have returned to my good graces. The she-hag that made every visit an ordeal was nowhere to be seen, and hopefully she has been banished back to Middle Earth where she belongs. Every order placed was prepared correctly, which was a welcome return to the old days. Speaking of the old days, I don't know if it'll ever return to the vaunted times of Pudge himself and his family, but at least they appear to be trying again. Service is still a bit brusque, but not in an unfriendly way. Just businesslike. Which in a place like this is ok. Now, if only the two TV's that were turned off could somehow be tuned into the Phillies game that was on...and what happened to the crushed ice? :-( And on that note, Lee's still gets the gold star for ambiance. But, Pudge's is once again my go-to place for amazing hoagies and steaks. Keep it up!

Yummy chicken cheese-steaks with onions! And to add to the past review on (11/4) we had cheese-steaks which I enjoyed especially with the peppers that I did'nt order?!) Just don't order the fries, there is nothing to them, soggy and no taste at all!!

Pudges continues to deliver a huge good cheese steak and they may have fixed the quirky customer service issues that I used to hate. the last few times I got take out, the younger guy running the register now is light years ahead of the previous women that had 2 speeds, slow and slower. Now there is no constant line and everything flows nicely. I would recommend for take-out unless you have a rowdy bunch with lots of kids in which case you will fit right in. One thing I hope they have stopped is the vacuuming while still open (near end of the day), I had seen that in the past and felt bad for customers sitting there (vacuums throw tons of dust around a room - not fatal but gross)

  • River O.

Great cheesesteaks. Probably the best that I've had in the area. I prefer these over Pat's (yuck), Jim's on South, or any others I've had. They are flavorful and fantastic. The onion rings are horrible. They are soggy.

Just flew in from Seattle, staying in Plymouth Meeting, hungry, needed a Hoagie. Checked for close-by restaurants with good Yelp reviews, found this gem. Boy, I was not let me down! Food was GREAT, huge portions, and the staff was friendly and courteous! Highly recommended.

Apparently Pudge hated most people. Most people except my father, who ran his "Dunder Miflin-esque" business next door. My father was a pall bearer in Pudge's funeral. Always interesting to me because of their "working" only relationship. I don't really even know if I ever met Pudge. Regardless of this sentimentality the steaks here are enormous and amazing, and everything else is top notch. Tips: Not in the mood for a steak but still want to put yourself in a food coma? Go with the "Ultimate Italian" if available. Love Pudges? Want a similar experience in L-Dale? Go to Ray's, Pudge's Cousin.

Just had a plain Cheese Steak with onion and Sauce. Sandwich size is decent.. You get a good amount of meat but I wouldn't say it's any more than most of the corner cheese steak places down town Philly. The cheese does seem a bit lower quality and it was almost liquid in some spots. Over all the steak was decent size buy lacking in flavor. The meat itself was chopped up a little too much for my liking also. I would go back to this place if I'm craving a meaty sandwich, but would recommend getting some hot peppers or something to give it a little flavor. Maybe just a little salt too.

  • Miguel G.

Best cheesesteaks in Montco. easily by far. The most meat on one hoagie, They put like a pound of meat on the REGULAR one!!! Are you snerious? The bread has a good consistency, last one, the meat was a little dry, but that was an aberration. Not the best cheesesteak I ever had but in the top ten for sure.

I'm not in the Philly area much these days, and the last few times I tried to visit Pudge's didn't happen because they weren't open on Sunday or Monday. Thankfully, they're now open 7-days a week. In either case, this past weekend, I called and they were open. Now.. I was thinking, it's been a few years... Time to test how my cherished memory of their amazing cheesesteak would hold up to reality... Our family of four asked for a large cheesesteak, and it was huge. The server (who was polite and friendly) even asked us how many portions we wanted the cheesesteak cut into, so we didn't have to do it ourselves. Pretty quick, out came 4 baskets of meaty goodness... Unfortunately, due to an ordering mix-up, we ended up getting a cheesesteak hoagie (instead of a regular cheesesteak). The server offered to remedy the situation when we pointed out the mix-up, but we decided to take the opportunity to try something new. Personally, I'd stick with an original cheesesteak instead of the cheesesteak hoagie since the oregano, tomatoes, and lettuce was very detracting from the flavor/taste; and would have preferred a little more meat or a little less bread. Also, there was some agreement at the table that there used to be more meat in the sandwiches; still, the one large cheesesteak hoagie we got was huge and mostly filled up four grown adults. Deciding to make the most of our trip, my husband and I ended up ordering a second cheesesteak (regular-sized this time) and split it two-ways. The second sandwich had a very good balance of meat to bread and we both enjoyed it. We also ordered fries and onion rings; which came out ok. The fries could've used a little more salt. Of note, the basket with the onion rings came with a piece of fried chicken, which was weird. The large cheesesteak hoagie was about $14, and the regular sized cheesesteak was about $7. The sandwiches are bigger than anywhere else I've been, so the value is good; but based upon our experience this time around, next time we will order two regular cheesesteaks instead of one large. There were definitely a lot more people who were here waiting for take-out food than eat in diners, but the business seems to be doing well, and good for them. Overall, Pudge's is still a good place to stop by and get a bite to eat.

    (3)
  • Rob R.

I am in full agreement with some of my fellow Yelpers when I say their cheese steaks are HUGE. When you order the "regular", you will think you had accidentally ordered the "large". The quality was on par with or better than those I've had at any place in West Philly, Old City, or even South Philly. I wonder how anyone could say that about a place located in a suburban strip mall. But I just did.

    (4)
  • D B.

Pudges has to be the place for the best cheesesteaks in the suburbs. Some could argue it rivals some of the south philly places too. Their other sandwiches and hoagies are great too. The even have birch beer on tap. Can get very busy during peak times, although they have a decent amount of tables to eat at.

I used to come here all the time when I was growing up. After I went to college and eventually moved to Chicago I found that I couldn't even stand eating a cheese steak away from Philadelphia, and would argue that Pudges was one of the best in Philly. These cheese steaks were so good that while they were my favorite food growing up, after I moved away I gave up beef as nothing ever compared. Had I stayed in Philly, the story might have turned out a little different.

  • Kristine G.

Holy cheesesteak, these are huge! Seriously, the regular is the size of a large at other places. I can't even begin to imagine the size of the large, but I think they had one of those "eat a large, get your photo up" boards. The hoagies were $6.50 for a regular size and you definitely get your money's worth. In fact, we couldn't finish them so we took them home and ate them for dinner. I had their eggplant parmesan hoagie and it was really good. It came to the table piping hot and had a nice flavor. Sometimes places can't cook eggplant right, but this was nice and soft, no bitterness to it. Jeff ordered their cheesesteak and it was very good, but not exceptional. It ranks up there with the typical cheesesteak from the burbs, just not crave worthy. I will say that the food was really good, but the staff left much to be desired. Our "waitress" had a serious attitude. It was like we had forced her to work there or something. She did the bare minimum. Jeff had to get up, walk over to a counter, and ask another server for a refill on his drink. Also, when this older gentlemen at another table asked for ketchup and mustard for his hamburger (btw, they are frozen ), she turned her back to him and started grumbling. You see, the ketchup was on the table, and it's hard to just give a smile and say "here it is." It's just annoying to get treated like that when you're paying for the service. Oh well, at least the food is good, but I recommend "to go"

As far as I'm concerned, the best cheesesteaks in the Philadelphia area. We make a stop there every time we visit.

  • Kent W.

BIGGER ISN'T ALWAYS BETTER! Hahahaha. Pudge's make a huge size portion cheesesteak even with the half sizes. They only make it one way - with American cheese. With that being said, the cheesesteak was alright. I had better. The meats were chopped up, and just a little dried. I believe they don't use rib eye steak like other cheesesteak place, but it still taste pretty decent. Bottomline: "Most bang for your buck" cheesesteak! But, average tasting.

    (3)
  • Justin H.

Simply the best, see David F's for my exact opinion! I've been everywhere and my friend that took me here was right...few compare to Pudge's. They're moving very soon but only to the next-door shopping center. Definitely a must-have cheesesteak!! Note: CASH-ONLY...rrrrr!

Stopped in for the first time on 12/10/11. The cheese-steak was awesome 5 stars but the service was underwhelming. For a first-time customer, food and service are 100% of a returning customer. I was not going to return however, another patron in the store assured me that was not the norm. So perhaps I'll give it another chance thanks to the other customer.

I stopped by to pick up some sandwiches for the movers and me and my dad. I had the ultimate pork with spinach and sharp provolone, which contained an ample serving of meat, although it was not as tender or as flavorful as Lenny's. It was good, though. A large at $11.50(+ tax) will feed a family of 3, if not 4. My dad's cheesesteak with onions and provolone was better, which made me turn a rather unbecoming shade of Elphaba-green out of envy. If I could only sing, I would be headed for the next reincarnation of Wicked. The meat wasn't dry and was quite tender and flavorful, and the carmelized onions made the perfect topping. Dad, being the generous man that he is and probably afraid of a little-Asian-girl-tantrum, traded sandwiches with me. Oh, and I should mention that the rolls are freshly baked and delivered from the Conshy bakery. The service was very efficient and our order was ready in 5 min. Definitely recommend coming here for the cheesesteaks if you're in the area. For roast pork, I would head to Lenny's.

Man I love this place. Their cheesesteaks are overflowing with meat and cheese and onions. Their rolls are fresh and delicious. I can't get enough of this place. I haven't had their hoagies in awhile but from what I remember, I loved it. It's a little shack type deal and there are seats you can eat in at. So much better than either Pats, Genos, Jims, or any other touristy cheesteak place. The ONLY bad thing is that they don't offer cheese whiz..prob better for me anyway.

  • Jason W.

Best cheesesteak sandwiches in the burbs! Always packed with meat and all the fixings you desire. They also have great hoagies, zeps, and grinders. Aside from their steaks I also really enjoy their tuna hoagie, Italian hoagie, and roast beef hoagie.

So good! Tender, moist meat. Sweet, golden onions. Fresh baked rolls. Those famous south Philly cheesesteak joints don't hold a candle. I love supporting my neighborhood businesses, and this place makes it a joy to do so. Pudge's also has a nice selection of veggie and non-cheesesteak options.

    (5)
  • Janelle J.

I agree this place is pretty good. BUT For some reason they can't seperate steak from chicken steak meat! What's up with that? If you order one or the other you're going to get a little bit in your sandwich. It doesn't bother me all that much but it does freak out some chicken cheesesteak lovers. I don't notice it that often in my cheesesteak but I dunno. My other pet peeve about this joint, is that they force you to be waited on if you eat inside. I mean really people, is this a trend? Is this really necessary? Are you kidding me?

  • Denise W.

Living in the area for six years now and tried Pudge's three times, trying to see what all the fuss was about - the locals all raving over Pudge's and the 'best cheesesteak' around. Eh. They are ok, the first two times was seriously disappointed and the third time being the best of the experiences, with an average to good cheesesteak. Nothing special. However, I haven't found any place else that makes a decent cheesesteak around the area, so when the craving strikes, I head down to Roxborough for Dalessandro's...and am in cheesesteak heaven! One kudo that is deserved - pretty good onion rings. That along with their portions of sandwiches and no where else better keeps them in the three star category. Perhaps my fourth visit will tip the scales upward.

I have been a huge fan of "The Pudge" for about 20+ years! It is one of my favorite things ever! It's a huge hoagie (Think Bill Cosby on the Cosby show when he would come in with those hoagies about a foot long) filled with a delightful combination of turkey, roast beef, ham and cheese. WITH MAYO is the way to go, lettuce, tomato, onion, salt, pepper, oregano. Hot peppers on the side and it's perfection! :)

I will never eat at this place again. After witnessing one of the cooks smoking his cigarette while cooking the meat for my chicken cheese steak and watching the embers fall onto the grill, they had the nerve to charge me for that. When I brought up the fact that I had just watched the guy do this, the cashier said they don't smoke in the kitchen. HELLO!! They have a see through area to the kitchen -- I know I'm not blind!! I left the sandwich and walked right out. You must be kidding if you think I'd pay for something like that. Someone needs to call the health inspector on this place and pronto!

Stopped here since we were in the area and read about this place. Ordered the cheesesteak with fried onion and whiz. Bf ordred the ultimate Ital hoagie. Both were huge for the money. My steak had a ton of meat however the whiz was on the bottom and soaked into the bread. With all the meat it was a little dry. The meat had a nice flavor. I wish I had gotten Amer cheese and asked to have it mixed it. Then it would have been a 5 in my book. I liked the Ital better than the bf. He thought the meat was cut too thick and hated that the tomatos were on the top of the hoagie. I thought it tasted really good. wish he had gotten pickles because they looked like barrell pickles. The hoagie tasted great to me with the roasted red peppers on there and the diff meats. I would go back if in the area but wouldnt drive th 45 min out of the way to get it. There are good steaks around my area too.

Ate at Pudge's for the first time last Saturday. My 87 year old uncle has been eating here for over 30 years! We were going to visit him as he had just been in the hospital. So we decided to take him his favorite hoagie, the Pudge. When my sister and I saw the rolls and sandwiches that other patrons were eating we decided to have lunch. My cheesesteak with sauce and onions was the best I have had in a long time. I can't get anything even close to this in Pittsburgh so every time I come to town to see my mom I need to get a fix! The meat was great and the rolls were from conshohoken bakery and were perfect. Will never go any where else again ! Mike and his staff were very friendly... Mike even came to our table to chat with us!

The first time I went to Pudge's must have been a bad night for them. Every steak I've gotten from them since then has been unbelievable. And they're one of the few places that knows how to put the pickles in just right. "Pickles on a cheesesteak? You're crazy!" you say... Trust me, try it. And try it at Pudge's. But bring cash. No plastic here.

Read David F's review as it is right on... One of they best local places for an over stuffed cheesesteak!!!

Pat's who? Gino's what? Fuhgettaboutit. It's all about Pudge's in Blue Bell, PA. Come hungry because a couple of "large" sized sandwiches could feed a small village with a foot and a half of juicy chopped ribeye piled high on fresh Italian bread that tastes like it was just baked that day. If you know what's good for you, your 18 inches of meat will be smothered with fried onions and have white American cheese oozing out.

  • Lynsey W.

Forget about Pat's, forget about Gino's, forget about even braving the traffic in the city of Philly to get a cheesesteak. GO TO PUDGE'S. It serves by far a much more delicious cheesesteak than any you will find inside city limits. Not an atmosphere for a high-class dining experience, but when you're digging into a big fat juicy cheesesteak with fried onions, and a side of fries and cole slaw, are you really worried about ambiance??! I love my new home--DC--but I do miss my Pudge's.

"Sorry to hurt anyone's feelings but they are the Best of Philly to date" Reviewed June 17, 2011 I am home born & raised Philly, I have eaten throughout my loved Brotherly city. But I must say that Pudge's is the King of the Philly Metro Area to date. I bring a minimum of two or three back to VA everytime I go home to visit. My new favorite is the chicken cheese steak with spinach, they don't have broccili rabe :( , SINCE THE WIFE MAKES ME CUT BACK ON BEEF :( Italian wedding soup excellent, burgers huge, hoagies (my favorite is the Pudge/ Ham, Turkey, & roast beef with everything hot & sweet). Fries are to kill for, portions are sick...in a great way.....I have to get a regular size sndwhich then cut in four sections. If your from out of town wrap to travel so it's not soggy when you get home. Staff are the absolute best ALWAYS..... I miss the big guy though, will never forget him as a kid going there....if closed next best bet Delasandros ?, Ridge ave in Philly......or Tony Luke's ( My Homeboy) in south Philly...tourist & locals like PAT's & Geno's ok for a tourist snack...Pudges is a meal & tomorrows lunch too......AMEN

I grew up on Pudge's cheesesteaks and have never found one better. Every time my family & I come back to visit, a couple of stops at Pudge's are on the "must-do" list.

hopefully the new store is not as dirty and dingy as the one they were undoubtedly evicted from. the steaks are huge but of substandard 'quality'. the family members that 'work' here provide poor service and frequently get the orders wrong.

It must be that Yelp hasn't caught on in Philly, because I, resident of suburban Los Angeles, should not be the first person to review this incredible little cheesesteak shop. It's the second best cheesesteak I've ever had in my life and perhaps it would have been better than Dalessandro's if I didn't eat it an hour later. Next time I go back home, I'm checking it out again. I've been only once, but it's not through a lack of effort. Pudge's in my family's favorite, and other times we've tried to go they've either been closed for vacation or ran out of rolls for the day. I appreciate the integrity of a place that will shut down for the day instead of use a cheap replacement. If you live in the area, it's well worth the trip.

Pudge's! Yummmmm! The location and the decor leave a lot to be desired. But the cheesesteaks.........the cheesesteaks.......are heaven for cheesesteak lovers. I've been going to Pudge's since high school and I've tried all of the local Philadelphia favorite. Although I love the Philly favs like Jim's, Delassandro's, Tony Luke's and all the rest of them, not one of them will match the volume of a Pudge's Cheesesteaks. Now, volume alone says nothing except that you'll get a large sandwich (and let me tell you these are xxl sandwiches), but the sandwich is awesome. The same family has been making these sandwiches since I was a young'n. The years of practice have served them well because the sandwiches are quality subs made with love and pride. Note to the curious: grab lots of napkins because these cheesesteaks are overflowing with steak and the cheese oozes all over the place. I give it a 4.5 rating but there are no half ratings. Give it a try.

Best I've had when visiting the area. What I really like is the value. In CA youd get a sandwhich only half as good and half the size for twice the price. I ordered a large the first time expecting a normal size sandwich. What I got looked like a huge party sandwich. I somehow finished it though and loved every bite.

  • Douglas B.

Best cheese steaks ever! Pat's and Geno's are sub-par in comparison. I do like the new location with more seating but miss the atmosphere of the old location. Don't forget to order the cheese fries!

Husband's favorite cheesesteak place in all of Philly - he grew up with these. No skimping on meat here like places in the city sometimes do - these are filled to the brim which is part of the appeal. Table service inside, and as I learned from personal experience, they frown upon you ordering "to go" and then deciding to stay there to eat... If it's lunchtime on the weekend, call ahead to place your order.

    (4)
  • Bob S.

My brother and I come her every weekend we get together. He just loves their hoagies. I usually opt for the cheesesteak. The staff is alway great. We love this place.

Ordered cheese steak with mushroom. Definitely no skimping on the meat. I could only finish half of it since it was so big and I thought the price was decent for the quantity. I thought it lacked some flavor though but being from New York I'm not sure if this is how its suppose to taste like. Also ordered the hot fries with cheese and that was absolutely delicious!!

Huge ,tasty sandwiches done the right way. You might pay a little more here than at other places , but it's worth every penny . Condiments are always fresh as are the veggies . Service is always on point and the place is always clean .

  • Del H.

A little higher prices then some other local spots but definitely is one of the better cheesesteaks in the suburbs. This is a chopped cheesesteak with good flavor in the meat and jot obnoxiously greasy. A step down from Jims and a handful of other places downtown but a definite notch above other offerings in Montgomery county.

  • E L.

Let me start by saying when I have friends over from out of town I take them here. While they are not my favorite cheesesteak place in town, to most of my friends this place has the best cheesesteaks hands down.

  • Michael K.

I always stop here on my way home when I'm in the area, my family and friends go nuts over these cheesesteaks. I like the onion n mushrooms w mine my kids are partial to plain cheese. I drive 1 1/2 hrs home and they are still warm and delish. Highly recommend this place and they are always friendly and CLEAN!!

  • Jim B.

Pound-for-pound, there's really nothing special about Pudge's steaks. But when you consider the actual poundage of steak they slap on their giant hoagie rolls then you will be pleased. The steaks are HUGE, making Pudge's a great place for really hungry people to get a cheesesteak. Besides, most steaks taste really similar anyways, so you might as well get a huge one.

    (3)
  • Greg T.

Wow... These prices are outrageous!!! How do they stay in business. Their food is average at best. Much better options in the Blue Bell/Ambler area. Save your money and stay away. Meat was tough and fatty.

Pudge's steaks & hoagies is very good. The establishment is clean. The food is also very good. Prices are reasonable. Their cheesesteaks and homemade potato chips are a must. If you are in the area stop on in!

I had lunch today at Pudge's. I had a tuna sandwich with lettuce on rye. There was no lettuce, way too much mayo and stale bread. Won't be back soon. Not the way it used to be. I didn't eat the whole sandwich since it was so bad.

Not the best steak I ever had but good. Nothing bad about it but nothing magical either. Good meat, nice roll, etc.

While visiting friends in Blue Bell, our host suggested we dine in and get steaks from Pudge's. He raved about them so we decided to try them.....meh. I don't mean to be blasphemous towards Philadelphia, but I've had better cheesesteaks back home in Miami. My wife liked hers, but she grew up in Blue Bell, maybe she's biased.

Funny thing, I have been a big fan of Pudges for well over 40 years. My cousins lived in East Norton and as a kid, I would visit them and we would always go to Pudges for a steak. I grew up in Canada so these visits were always highlighted by going to the old location, which by the way, I prefer over the new location. It had a different energy maybe because it was so much smaller. I have lived off and on in California for the past 30 years, when ever I would visit my cousins, Pudges was high on the list. Recently we moved back to the West Chester area and have made it a habit to eat at Pudges when in the area. Even with the change in location, I am SO happy the food has not wavered, but has actually improved! Nothing on the menu should ever be discounted, it is all good!! We ate there tonight, my family loved the food and the server, Sally, was a gem. My only recommendation is to hide the cleaning equipment, having it in customer view is not appetizing and especially sitting next to the to go wrapping station makes my stomach a bit queasy. In fact, the whole area needs a revisit as to what a customer sees, kinda an eyesore. Anyways, I highly recommend the cheese steak hoagie, best, by far, that I have ever enjoyed fully ( take it back, I have never been able to finish a full steak sandwich, so much food:)

It's good food for a decent price. You get generous portions. I was on a quest before for the perfect cheesesteak. The ones here are pretty good, in my opinion, however they are not necessarily the very best. They do use good quality ingredients. I've heard good things about Pudge's from many people, so perhaps my preferences in cheesesteaks is unique. I guess I just wish there were more options to the cheesesteak. When I went during lunch hour, there were a lot of people. It's very popular with blue collar workers and hungry looking men. It's typical fried food though. Nothing too fancy. It's very clean on the inside. The food will surely feed your appetite. Servers and staff were friendly. It's for people who like standard American food.

This place is way overrated. We went there on a Friday night and sat at their counter. The food took forever to come out. Don't worry though. It gave us an opportunity to listen to the two waitresses complain about the lack of money they were making that night. The food wasn't anything special. If I compared it to the local pizzeria, it's on par. Not worth the more expensive prices to come here. My wife really hated her chicken cheesesteak.

Unfortunately, very disappointing sandwiches. Italian hoagie meat was thickly sliced. The so called capicola was an inauthentic, chopped and formed version of the Italian cold cut. At $7.80 for a small was way over priced for this inferior sandwich. The steak sandwich was packed with meat, though lacked a flavor of quality. The french fries were good and the jalapeno ranch sauce was perfect. Our server, Robin did an excellent job and was the most redeeming quality of our experience there. $39.48 is quite expensive for 3 small sandwiches, 2 sodas and 1 order of french fries. Plus, upon paying for the meal I caught sight of a very dark kitchen which as a chef, does not sit well with me in regards to their safety and sanitation practices. I will not be back.

Awesome cheesesteaks! Fries were a disappointment which is the only reason for the four star rating. Still going to come back anytime I'm in Blue Bell.

I forgot that people are freaking fat in this country. I'm from out of town, oh a large hoagie... that sounds like a good idea, I can eat half of it tomorrow. 20" is a lot of hoagie, not to mention it is over stuffed. I don't eat as much as I used to, but I could barely fit in 1/4 of that hoagie for dinner that night! I was able to finish the other 1/4 the next day, but my buddy Sam ended up having all that extra cow in his fridge when I left. I will say that the steaks are good, but somehow when you have a mountain of meat staring at you in the face, it does something to your appetite. Don't get greedy and go for the large unless you're feeding a family of four at home. Then it's actually a great deal. Still not my favorite steaks, but pretty good nonetheless. Also had the cheese n bacon fries, my friend had the hot fries. Both pretty soggy and not very good. Nice interior, but we got carry out.

Went downhill bad under new ownership they still give a healthy amount of meat but it's just not the same as it was and expensive I got two cheesesteaks and one order of fries for $23 that wouldn't bother me if it was good I guess people giving good reviews never had a good cheesesteak

We yelped and found this restaurant while in King of Prussia, These subs are sooooo good. I know why they named this place Pudge's; if I ate one of these subs each week I would be pudgy! Subs are meaty and well-flavored. Meat is perfectly cooked. Service is friendly and efficient too. They have a cheese steak challenge - I'm betting most people FAIL miserably but I will say no more. Well done Pudge's!

All I can think about when someone mentions Pudge's is red and white table cloths, huge cheesesteaks and the tiny dining room of their former location. (I loved it) Pudge's current location is much larger then the original and a lot more modern. I enjoyed the old location more but I understand the upgrade was needed. Over the past few years the quality has gone up and down. The manager that used to run the place a few years ago has returned and Pudge's is back on my favorites list. The steaks are so packed with meat most times you need a fork to eat all the extra meat that falls on your plate during the meal. Pudge's won't let you leave hungry. They started an eating challenge in the past year or two. I believe its one large cheesesteak, one plate of fries and one large drink.

I like the place. I have had better subs. The service is good, the place is clean. Philly cheese steak is good but I usually share with someone else. I don't want to eat the whole thing. It's big.

Love Pudge's cheesesteaks and their home made potato chips which are a must. We only get cheese steaks and potato chips there, haven't tried the other menu items. But, I highly recommend them.

I liked Pudge's. We never really got to go get a "real" cheesesteak while in Philly - BF and his stupid card tournaments being inconvenient - but this definitely hit the spot. We placed our order ahead of time and it was fresh and ready when we drove over. Delicious and filling.

There hoagies are big (probably because they serve them open faced) but ok. I still prefer Wawa's hoagies. I'll still come back to try there cheese steaks.

I had never been here before and the pictures looked great, but I was sorely let down. I ordered the Ultimate Pork sandwich. I know that DiNic's at Reading Terminal Market is the best ever made (see Man vs Food's best sandwich I ever had, special) so I wasn't expecting 5 stars, but come on. The spinach was good, the sharp provolone was alright. the roll was decent, but the pork and "gravy" were terrible and tasteless. Absolutely no seasoning. I took 3 bites, brought it home, put it on a pan with fresh garlic and salt and the flavors were much better. It was served so dry and bland that I actually got angry. I'm really not trying to be overly critical but the sandwich just missed the mark. I will go back for a cheesesteak and update the review but I simply can't fathom why someone would make a sandwich without any seasoning. Oh, and to add insult to injury, after I asked the waitress (also a ridiculous idea for lunch at a sandwich shop) to wrap my sandwich, she only wrapped the untouched half. Thanks for throwing out a 1/4 of a sandwich and the gravy that was already in a plastic to-go cup.

Weekdays, this spot seems to host mostly a work crowd. But don't fret, there's still space to sit. Haven't been to Pudge's old location, but this one is clean and pleasant. Walk in, seat yourself, and place your order when someone gets to you. Friendly service. Tried their pepper cheesesteak (around $7, thanks to my friend for paying!): It was a hefty size (ended up taking half of it to go), with a colorful mishmash of peppers and tender meat. Cheesesteaks aren't usually my thing, but I left satisfied. Good experience all-around; I'll be back for their hoagies.
